Welcome to St. Luke's United Methodist Church!
At St. Luke's, we are disciples of Jesus Christ, expressed in our abiding love for God and neighbor, through worship, study, service, and witness. We are a friendly, welcoming community of faith that provides myriad opportunities to explore and experience the abundant life God offers us, Jesus Christ. Actively involved in the surrounding communities, we seek to be the light of Christ in a dark world, meeting the needs of the least, the last, and the lost in our society.
Come and Join the Ringers!
If you have been waiting for an opportunity to play in our excellent handbell choir, the time is now! Rehearsals have just begun after the summer break, so this would be a perfect time to join this fun group. The group plays once a month in worship and rehearses at 6:15 PM on Wednesday evenings. No experience is necessary, and you do not need to know how to read music. For further information talk with any member of the group, or just come to a rehearsal!
Charge Conference
We have received information from the Mississippi River District office about our annual Charge Conference. We will be meeting at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 7, at First United Methodist Church of East Alton. Members of the Administrative Board are asked to put this date on your calendar. Our District Superintendent, Gary Wilson, will be leading the meeting.
Young @ Heart Beat
The September 28 meeting of Young @ Heart will feature a program on quilts and their effect on the Underground Railway. It will be presented by Dottie Benson, who is a member of St. John’s UMC in Edwardsville. Quilters and others may find this an interesting program and are invited to attend.
Mission News
Our September Mission focus is Operation Christmas Child. Please pick up a shoebox and a list of suggested items from the narthex. The boxes can be wrapped in Christmas paper. Be sure to wrap the lid and bottom separately. Fill the boxes with age-appropriate goodies and bring them to church by the end of September. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a ministry of Franklin Graham. The shoebox gifts are collected throughout the U.S. and shipped to children in other countries to spread Christ’s love.
Water Bottles
Remember the water bottles we distributed several months ago as “banks” for Liberia support? We will be collecting those in early September, so begin to pray about which organization in Liberia you want to support. Remember, you can mark you preference on the bottle label. If you haven’t begun to collect your spare change for our mission work there, it’s not too late.
At Home with Christ
"Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.'" John 14:23
